5 AM.........

Yesterday I was feeling under the weather and so was my youngest little one Madi so I did not get any exercise in.  It did feel good to rest and get lots of extra sleep but last night I was itching to get moving.
So today was my first day of my new plan.  I was up at 4:45 and Darla met me at 5:00 for
a walk/jog this morning. It was TOUGH getting up that early but when I was
finally up and moving it felt great!! I love that fresh morning air.  So Darla and I walked (and jogged a tiny bit) for an hour and then we did our P90X workout!!!  I am so excited!
I hope I can keep up with the waking up early!! Feels good!

Last night was the start of another episode of the Biggest Loser - I don't know what it is about that show but every time I watch it I get so pumped and motivated! Now if I could just bottle
up some of that motivation for those times when I feel like I wanna give up - life would be good!

The next run I am planning on doing will be the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot here in IF.
Mikel has mentioned that he would like to do this one as well.
- I think it is just a 5k  (I hope it is at least a 5k)  I would like to do a 5k before the end of the year that is about time.  I would like to challenge myself and see how long it takes me to run the 3.1 miles.  So I will probably be looking for another 5k here locally!!  There is a half marathon run on Nov. 11th in pocatello and I keep going back and forth with the question:

"Am I ready to do a half marathon?"

I need to start looking into a training schedule for the marathon in May 2011.  I have about 8 months to get ready for it. I would like to loose at least 40 pounds before I get into an actual running routine.  I think that would help me feel better physically and mentally.  If I can loose that 40 pounds in the next 3 months I would then have a good 5 months to really get into a routine.  I think that'll work!!

I can do this, I can do this,
I CAN DO THIS!!!

When to work out - when not to work out.......

I struggle sometimes about when to work out and when not to work out.  It is tough with 4 kids - they are my first priority and sometimes I feel like I am slacking. - So I have decided to give myself a schedule and stick to it for at least 30 days and then see what needs to be adjusted.  I enjoy running (for the most part) and I love how I feel when I am working out regularly so I need to be able to juggle all my apples!!

Here is what I have come up with! (If anyone has any great suggestions - do tell!)

MONDAY
5am - run 1 time around the river (2.4 miles)
6am - meet Darla for a round of P90X
8pm - 30-60 minutes of cardio

TUESDAY
5am - run 2 times around the river
8pm - P90X and 30 minutes of cardio (or cardio if I can work it in during the day)

WEDNESDAY
5am - run 1 time around the river
6am - meet Darla for a round of P90X
8pm - 30-60 minutes cardio

THURSDAY
5am - run 2 times around the river
8pm - P90X and 30 minutes of cardio

FRIDAY
5am - run 1 time around the river
6am - meet Darla for a round of P90X
8pm - P90X and 30 minutes of cardio

SATURDAY
6am - P90X
walk with my family sometime during the day
9pm - cardio

SUNDAY
play with my Family!!

I am really excited to give it a shot!!  I just seem to want to do so much and don't seem to have the time.  Maybe this schedule will help!!  woohoo!!

Spud Run - 5k

Yesterday morning my husband, myself and my 2 sister-in-laws ran in the spud run 5k. It was awesome!! So here is how the morning went - Mikel and I were way tired from the night before (emotion bowl) and we woke up a little late.  We were suppose to be in Shelley by 7am and we were barely leaving the house by 7am.  We took the back roads to Shelley and my husband says to me "whoa they changed the speed limit to 35 here, I better slow down" Just then we see a county cop and get pulled over.  (You see we have been driving back and forth on that road for over 13 years now and had not realized the speed limit had changed) So we ended up with an 85$ ticket and we pulled up to the race about 2-1/2 minutes before they fired the starting gun. So basically we hit the road running.
Me and Mikel's first 5k was off to a quick start - we hadn't even realized what we were doing until we rounded the first corner.  Talk about a whirlwind experience!
Even my husband said he had fun!! My sister-in-law Cherice killed it in 32 minutes!! Way to go Cherice! Tiffany (my sister-in-law) did Awesome in 36 minutes!! You rock Tiffany!! My husband and I finished in 46 minutes!! Thank you Mikel for doing the 5k with me!! It was a little rough getting started (we walked a lot of mile 1)  but by the time we hit mile 3 we were pumped and we did a lot more jogging!! I probably could have gone a few more miles and would have felt great!!  I had so much fun that I think I am going to shoot for at least 3 more 5k's before the end of the year!!

Am I crazy? No - I'm MAD!!

I wasn't able to get out last night and go for that 7.2 mile jog that I was going to do in 1 hour 50 minutes.  Family comes first and last night was one of those nights that I just needed to be a mom and not go for my run.  I will for sure be going out tonight for that 7.2 mile jog.  little nervous - my left foot is killing me today.  I put my shoes on this morning to head out for my p90x workout and my foot was screaming at me.  You would think that after over a year of the darn foot killing me I would learn to tollerate the pain but man it hurts!!!

So in just a few days I will be running a 5k in the shelley spud run. Spud day is a big thing in our family.  My husband is from Shelley and his dad is the mayor there so we are proud of our Spud day every year!! This is the first year we are doing the run.  We originally were going to do the 10k but we have a few family members we wanted to include and thought that the 5k would be the better choice.  My husband Mikel will be running along side me on Saturday.  I am SOOO EXCITED for the 2 of us to do this together!!  Mikel used to run all the time and he is quick!! I hope I can keep up with him!! It is great to have a great partner!

Speaking of partners - I need to thank my wonderful friend Darla for being my partner every monday, wednesday, and friday!! Darla and I get up at meet at the church at 6am 3 days a week and bust our bums doing the p90x workouts with Tony Horton.  These workouts are tough but I sure enjoy working out with Darla!!

Lezhai is another one of my great partners!! Thank you Lezhai for being there for me!! i love running with Lezhai and let me tell you why!  She runs at my pace (which is slow....remember I told you I run as fast as a TURTLE) and is always encouraging me.  When I am ready to give up she doesn't say "oh come on"  she says "you can do this, I know you can, you are amazing and you are doing so awesome!!"  I try to quit to early and give up and she doesn't let me.  Thank you Lezhai!!

I am excited to get things rolling and figure out a training schedual for the upcoming marathon I WILL be running next May.  Am I crazy?  NO - I'm M.A.D.!!

Ta Ta for Now!!

A Long way to go.......

I just got back from doing a 5 mile run with Lezhai.  Man it's tough running.  I find myself wanting to give up on myself WAY to easily.  I would have only made it 1 mile if it hadn't been for Lezhai.  I had NO energy and I am trying to break in new running shoes.  ugh...... It was rough, but in the end it feels so good to run!

So exactly 8 months from tomorrow I WILL BE running a marathon.  Boy I have a LONG way to go.  I run about as fast as a TURTLE but I have adopted the saying "You don't have to go fast, you just have to go"

Tomorrow we are shooting for 3 laps around the greenbelt which would be 7.2 miles.  We are hoping to do the 7.2 miles in 1 hour 50 minutes.  I can do it, I can do it, I can do it!!! (yikes!!)  I am a little scared about the upcoming marathon, I need to get my mind in the right place.  I just am way to quick to give up on myself, I need to stop telling myself that I can't do it.  Lezhai is such a GREAT partner to run with - all she does is encourage me to keep going and reminds me that she was in the exact same spot I am in right now.

I need to do this marathon.  I need to do it for myself....I need to do it for my health.... I need this marathon right now.  I don't think this journey could have come at a more perfect time.  I want this! I can do this!

What I am working up to!

Here is the marathon I am working towards!! Looking at this
picture doesn't it just make you wanna put on your shoes, tie
up your laces and hit that pavement? It does me!!

I am soo EXCITED but I am SOOOOO
EXTREMELY SCARED!!  Yikes!
I went and purchased new shoes yesterday
because I have the WORSTE issues with
my left foot and shoes just make it worse.
I think I am second guessing myself about
the shoes I did get so I think I will be going
back to the store to get a second pair of
shoes.  I think SHOES are my BIGGEST
issue with running.  I think if I can just find
the right pair of running shoes I think I
would be set to go!!  I am going to get out
today and try for about 7 miles!! woohoo!
I will let you know how it goes!

What is the Mad Marathon you ask?

M.A.D. stands for making a differnce.  The Mad marathon is all about breaking out of your comfort zone and attempting what many think is impossible while helping to make a difference in the lives of many.  The funds generated from this marathon, half marathon, 10k and 5k are being donated to a great cause.  They will be sponsoring hearing impaired children in humanitarian hearing missions across the world.

So I have too decided to break out of my comfort zone and go for it!! Not only will I be making a difference in my own health and my own life but I will be helping to make a difference in the life of others!!

This is my journey!

Be sure to check out http://www.themadmarathon.com/  If you are not local and can't participate in this run - find one in your home town and GO FOR IT!!!

The Start of Something GREAT

I have tried a bit of jogging here and there, nothing big or amazing.  I have always wanted to be a runner and complete a marathon but have always thought that a marathon was way out of my reach.  This summer I participated in a 5 mile run (To Bone and Back - I know nothing big) and I felt AMAZING when I completed the race.  I was SLOOOOW  and yes I wanted to give up every 3 minutes but I had great friends to help me along the way.  After this Bone and Back race I had this nagging voice in the back of my head telling me that I needed to just get out and move because when I do I feel great.  (yes the first mile or two kills me, but it does feel great, eventually)  I have had a hard time getting motivated to get running, then I was approached by my great friend Lezhai about running a marathon next may.  http://www.themadmarathon.com/ - A marathon with a great cause (check it out and join!)  I have been getting really excited about the thought of completing a marathon and am getting EXTREMELY nervous about running a marathon.  So, I am going to blog my journey, my hurdles, my setbacks, and my accomplishments!!  Let me know if you wanna run along side me and we can do this together!!
